By now, we are all aware of the dire budget news coming from
Sacramento and the fact that public education is facing a huge
reduction in funds. Should the Governor’s Budget be accepted as
proposed, Tustin Unified School District will be forced to cut
approximately $5.5 million in ongoing budget reductions from the
2008-09 General Fund Budget. Such cuts will have dramatic
implications and present challenges for our school district.
During times of crisis, the support we receive is more
important than ever. Frequent and accurate communication with
schools and community becomes critical. Our objective is to
maintain regular communication through school principals,
PTA/PTO groups, Tustin Public Schools Foundation and the
District’s website.
There is no better time than NOW to contact local legislators
and the Governor. Our government leaders must know that schools
and students did not create this state budget problem;
therefore, the budget should not be balanced at their detriment.
We
will continue to keep you informed as we navigate through this
fiscal crisis and are committed to do everything we can to
protect the students of TUSD and public education funding.
